John’s notes;
I composed this tune to introduce you to the ‘Ragtime
Genre.’
What is ‘Ragtime’ music?
Still popular today ‘RagTime’ music is a genre that
preceded jazz. It evolved from traditional ‘blues’ music
and got its name from the ‘bouncy’ often called
‘ragged’ syncopated rhythm used in the ‘Blues and
early Jazz’ tunes. It became (and still is) very popular
in American Southern states, and can often be heard
in swinging marching Bands!
Practical Theory info’.
Due to the many chord changes per measure it isn’t practical to target all the chord tones, so the melody is created
from just three of the five E Major scale positions. To create the ‘Blues & Jazz’ elements in the melody the chord tones
containing the flat 7th, diminished, and augmented notes are targeted.
This tune works well with electric and acoustic guitars….Enjoy!
