My grateful thanks to Terry for a great vocal.
This Jazz/blues standard has stood the test of time and has been recorded by artists such as Ray Charles, Rod Stewart, Michael Buble and hundreds of others. Strum to coincide with the ‘brush stroke’ of the drummer. All the chords should be played as ‘Barre’ chords so it will take practice to smoothly go from chord to chord. Its well worth the effort to get good at playing ‘Barre’ chords. An essential Rhythm guitar skill !
This famous Blues / soul tune has been recorded by countless performers. This is my solo arrangement that should be (with practice) within the reach of most students who have been coming to lessons for a while. The arrangement uses the ‘key centre’ scale of G major. Very little ‘chasing chord tones’ in this because typical of ‘jazzy’ tunes the chords are flowing by fairly quickly so careful use of ‘in key’ and ‘out of key’ notes are used instead. If you play just a basic G major Pentatonic scale over the chord progression you’ll soon realise it has a lot of shortcomings! This tune is ideal for practising all your standard soloing ‘techniques’ including loud and quiet dynamics. The timing can be tricky so use the video of me playing this to guide you. Enjoy!
