John’s notes; When this tune was requested I was very pleased to have a reason to create an arrangement suitable for solo guitar for this very well known and powerful ballad! Despite restricting myself to arranging a solo following the original recording it took many takes before I stopped adding many verses of ‘improvisation’. The chord progression almost forces you to go off topic, it’s so easy to get carried away and jam to your hearts content. Which I encourage you to try to do, but as a lesson I had to hold back! Lot’s of useful techniques in this arrangement. Whether acoustic or electric ‘FEEL’ the vibe, express yourself, don’t just play the notes. The backing track took a long time to get right so enjoy that as well… Have fun & keep playing!
Backing Track
Acoustic Version
Rhythm Guitar
Part 1 = Rhythm guitar with singer Part 2 = Rhythm guitar with Backing Track
TAB & ‘one to one’ tuition available to members
Rhythm Guitar supplies the background harmony whether on it’s own or with other instruments. Practice along with the Backing Track on the website first to get your chord changes and timing ‘spot on’ before playing along with the melody (either a singer or instrument). NOTE: The rhythm guitar would not normally be played this loud. It would be mixed withinin the backing harmony. This video is for lesson purpose only.
