Lesson Guide - A Spaceman came Travelling

John’s notes, “A Space Man came Travelling” by Chris De Burgh was and still is a global hit at Christmas time, and can be heard on the radio and in most Supermarkets as background music. The original song is in the key of Bb but to avoid using barre chords and to provide a more ‘open strings’ sound I have used a CAPO on the 5 th fret. In other words it’s still in the original key but easier to play using chords from C Major. Capo’s are great for transposing keys in this way and providing a different texture to your sound.
TAB & ‘one to one’ tuition available to members
In this arrangement you’ll use a few ‘chord extensions’ which are added melody notes to chords, just another example that chords and melody are same thing! When you play an ‘arpeggio’ for example you are simply playing the notes of a chord as independent notes (not ringing into each other) therefore a melody. This is a short version of the song (the original is just over 4 minutes) but can be extended by repeating the verses and chorus to your likeing.
