Lesson Guide - The Circle of Life
John’s notes;
Welcome to the world of ‘Chord/Melody’, an
alternative to ‘fingerstyle’ playing.
This arrangement started out from a request from a local
school. They wanted a short (not overly complex) version of
“Lion King” for their school play production.
A pupil would sit and play the tune prior to the curtain being
pulled aside for the play to begin.
I’m delighted to say it went down very well so I’ve included it
in my lesson list.
This arrangement includes many techniques and chords that
you will use time and again in your playing.
The right hand plectrum technique can be a challenge at first
because it needs to be accurate especially when playing
partial chords.
Chord/Melody is popular in all genres including jazz, blue grass, folk and blues music to name a few. Start slow then
aim to play this tune at medium tempo, and slow down from phrase 14 for best effect. Most of all - Enjoy!
