Lesson Guide - The Circle of Life
Any questions - just ask
John’s notes;
This arrangement started out from a request from a local school. They wanted a short version of ‘Lion King’ for one
of their students to play on a guitar prior to the stage curtain going up in their school production. It worked well, so
here’s a lesson using various techniques that you’ll use time and time again in your own repertoire’s.
This is arrangement demonstrates the use of chord triads supporting the melody. I’ve arranged this for use with a
plectrum but works just as well using your right hand fingers (fingerstyle) if you prefer. No rules here regarding how
you should play this version. Just play at your own pace and enjoy. Medium or slow will work just fine. Get each
phrase as good as you can before moving on, this is an emotional ballad so try and get the notes flowing smoothly,
leading into each other (like church bells)! Practice your dynamics and ‘expression’ in the melody by trying to mimic
the human voice (the guitar is great at doing this).
This chord symbol means ‘your choice’ either strum or arpeggio - just serve the tune tastefully, and make it
your own arrangement!
